Kanye West and Daft Punk - Stronger
Kanye West feat. Daft Punk, "Stronger" (YSI link)
Kanye West feat. Daft Punk, "Stronger (instrumental)" (YSI link)
The night is almost upon us, Daft Punk in Brooklyn. In honor of this occasion, here's more proof that my boys are taking over the world, the rap game ain't even safe no mo from the Parisian duo. Kanye West has decided to sample one of Daft Punk's most famous songs, "Harder Better Faster Stronger" for his new single, "Stronger," a totally different look for a dude who tends to the soul and r&b samples, the 70s and early 80s sounds. (Is this his subtle way of apologizing for being such a douchebag to fellow Parisians Justice at last year's MTV Europe awards?) First listen, I was underimpressed. To be honest, I haven't been listening to much rap this year and I've had mixed feelings about West, so I feel like this one started out in a hole. However, a few more listens and I got through those preconceived notions and it's getting better and better. I mean, the beat is sick, you know that; Kanye handles it well, sounds energized, drops his typically dense, witty lyrics. I was most impressed that it's a real song, not some mixtape with the dude rapping over a famous beat.
It sounds like Kanye's new album, Graduation, is going to be going with a more futuristic, electronic sound, which is really exciting. Get your pre-order on, or wait until it drops at the end of this month. Either way, this is gotta be one of the most anticipated albums of the second half of the year.

Jack,
I should correct you here. Although he did sample Daft Punk- Daft Punk actually took the entire track (vocoder excepted) from Edwin Birdsong's Cola Bottle Baby, which is a track that came out sometime in the late 70s. In a circular way, it's just a Kanye track.
As opposed to downloading, the instrumental, why wouldn't you just download the daft punk version. I mean it is all over the internet, and its insane.
Because the instrumental version is a basically a remix and the beat sounds cool? Variations on old stuff always get our attention - half of the electronic music scene is based on remixing, and the other half is sampling.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who found a copy of the instrumental version, nice post.
Thanks for the link!
