The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health
The Knife, "We Share Our Mother's Health"
The Knife, "We Share Our Mother's Health (Trentemoller remix)"
The Knife, "We Share Our Mother's Health (Ratatat remix)"
I've been hoping to talk about Swedish electronic duo The Knife for a few months now, ever since I bought A Silent Shout as an import. I decided to wait because I got a chance to interview them and do a profile for a magazine and was going to try to coincide the discussion with its publication. But, today is so fucking hot that I have to bring some serious mp3 heat to bear. "We Share Our Mother's Health" is the perfect answer, a cold, brittle slice of house, complete with spooky, detached vocals that turn this into haunted music. It's stunning, really, simultaneously danceable and frightening. I won 't say too much more about The Knife, as I'll do a review of the album shortly. Buy the album now, as you can get it for a domestic price.
The two remixes come from two opposite ends of the musical spectrum, indie favorites Ratatat and Danish house producer Trentemoller. Brooklyn's Ratatat didn't conform to my expectations, as this one doesn't sound like some throwaway indie remix nor a bunch of kids throwing hip hop beats into the mix. Instead, they fool with the tempo, slow and speeding the song up to great effect, add a nice guitar as rhythm part and other effects that don't take away from the song as a whole. It's nice, although pales in comparison to our other selection. Trentemoller has created an epic remix, putting the original under the microscope. He turns this into a song of little bloops and sounds that add up to a banging track. Love the handclaps 4 a little past the halfway point, which marks the jump-off, as soon you have a raging dance track on your hands. Stunning.
-In the spirit of remix brilliance, it's time to cop DJ Benzi's latest mix, We Got the Remix, filled with Clipse remixes and exclusives. This seems like a huge step up for Benzi, a move into the real big time of street tapes. Not only do you get some unheard rarities, you also get remixes from Diplo, Ghislain Poirier, A Brucker and Sinden and more. All for 6 bucks? What the hell are you waiting for?
-Free Black Rob!
-I've reupped the Justice remixes and Simian Mobile Disco remixes, so grab those if you haven't already. Thanks to the people who emailed or left comments and politely asked for me to do so, as I'm always glad to hook readers up. This is gonna have to be my last request for a recommendation on a good host, so that I can move off of yousendit.

The Knife music is great. I'm obsessed with the first song that I heard of them, 'Heartbeats' and is fantastic the kind of groove-rock mix, the singer in that song remember me to Siouxsie's voice.
I will hear this song and remixes!
Great blog.
