Grill 'Em
JR Writer, "Grill 'Em"
JR Writer with Cam'ron and Hell Rell, "Grill 'Em (remix)"
A-Trak, "Don't Fool With the Dips"
This song has been on constant rotation since I caught the video on MTV Jams a few weeks ago. "Grill 'Em" makes me want to beat the shit out of people and start fights and get a grill and scare people, what all good songs should do. For real, this is one of the nastiest rap songs I have heard in a long time, right up there with the best of No Limit or that Diplomats version of "Bout It Bout." It's got this ridiculous synth right out of the Master P handbook, an ominous, arrogant sound that is just sick. Both versions are great, although I prefer the original that has only JR Writer. Writer seems like this dude who could really blow up, he's got the skill, the swagger, right out of the Cam/Juelz mould. His Writer's Block mixtapes have been excellent; now, it's time to drop a full-length and another killer club track.
Err, wait, I love Cam, too, always great to have him on a verse. It doesn't really matter, grab 'em both, memorize them, play them out, get buck, enjoy. Fuck it, I'm gonna add one more killer Dip Set tune, this one from an A-Trak white label. A-Trak runs this one, killin' with all sorts of scratching and sampling the "don't fool with the dips" line and creating a sick refrain. Add all of that to a slow, menacing instrumental and you have some more fight music.
-New Will Farrell movie opens today, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. A.O. Scott gives it a good review, doesn't sound like another Anchorman, but it'll do the job. The reviewer at Ain't It Cool News says it's a very funny movie; I'm actually thinking that review might be more closer to my own taste. I guess we'll see.
-Damn, SJ looks damn good in pic, just makes you wanna:
