Hoagie Town USA BK, Next Level PHILA, Robotic Wednesdays OKC and more
Okay, I just got back from Philly a few minutes ago and am about to head out to dinner with JH-B, but I couldn't help myself. I mean, is there a more perfect confluence than me returning to Williamsburg tonight, the same night that Philly's Steven Bloodbath comes here to throw a party in the same hood with the word hoagies in the party name? The answer is no, there is no more perfect union than that. So yeah, Bloodbath is teaming up with DJ Krames of Cobra Kai and the hardest working man in NYC for the Hoagie Town USA party at Royal Oak (594 Union Ave) This one should be super rad, lots of people, party music that you have heard before from genres such a rap, pop and dance. Best of all, there are going to be free hoagies and grinders from new sandwich shop Papa Lima. I can honestly say that there are few good sandwich shops in NYC in the non-deli category (holler if you can recommend something) Hosted by Nicky Neglige, no cover, 21+.
-If you are in the city, head to 205 Club (205 Chrystie) as you always should on Wednesday nights when the Taste NYC crew take over. Oh, I will simply say that if you haven't been before or go all of the time, tonight's party should be extra special. Early in the night, they are showing the entirety of R. Kelly's magnum opus, Trapped In The Closet. After that, there will be a special guest DJ set from a mega-famous guy who has no hair and owns a nearby vegan-y cafe. That person joins with DJ Equal upstairs for a great night in the city. RSVP to films@thetastecrew.com to see if you can still make the film screening at 11 or show up around 12:30 for the party. PS In Flagranti is spinning downstairs. Game over.
-If you can't see the movie, head over to Happy Ending (302 Broome St) for one of my favorite parties, Moonwalk. While my dude Rezound won't be there tonight, fellow resident DJ Cousin Cole will and he is joined by a nice list of guests, including the excellent Nick Hook from the band Men, Women and Children, Skinny Friedman of the Philadelphyinz and a duo called Sports who I am unfamiliar with. Open bar from 11-12, great DJs all night, great early or late or all-night stop. No cover, 21+.
-There's also Love Migraine at Sutra Lounge (16 First Avenue@1st St) Hosted by Amylulita, this one's dedicated to playing great dance music from around the world. DJ Richard and guests cover everything from the newest indielectro band to classic disco and new wave, check the flier for a sampling of what you might hear. Sounds pretty good, right? No cover, 21+, doors at 10 pm.
-Ahh, my favorite city, Philly, I already miss you. I miss you even more because I would love to be at tonight's Next Level party at The Barbary (951 Frankford Ave) This party features some of the city's best DJs - Shawn Ryan, Billy Werner and Mike Tee - who are involved in great parties like Hurrah!, Paradise and Robotique. A night of
-If you are in Center City, stop by Sal's (200 S. 12th St) to celebrate An Exploit Christmas. Guest DZA and residents Jenn Louie and Deann Dylema won't be spinning that shit that gets piped in ad nauseam at drugstores and whatnot. Not, they will give you their regular dose of techno, d'n'b and electro. This is a great weekly party, but I'd highly recommend this night in particular, as guest DZA is spinning a jackin' house set, i.e. what I would want for Christmas. No cover, 21+.
-Yeah, more Philly connections! Tonight, Philly's Designer Drugs is the special guest DJs at the Robotic Wednesday party at Electro Lounge (5929 N. May Ave) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They'll join with the Dance Robots, Dance crew who do this every week and should be plotting a takeover of both coasts in the new year I hope, for a sick night of twisted dance music. $3, 21+, doors at 10pm.
-Out in LA, it's Wednesday and time to Get Low. This weekly at Crash Mansion (1024 S. Grand Ave) features special guests Bip Jeffington and Eli Smith of So Sweet Records in the DJ booth, joining residents Luv Tek, Joaquin and Hyphy Crunk. RSVP at the going.com site for free entry before 11 and $5 entry the rest of the night, otherwise it's $10. 18+, doors at 10.
-Outside the city at the Detroit Bar (843 W. 19th St) in Costa Mesa, the Busywork X-Mas party goes down with a ton of cool guests. Dan Oh from Cinespace, Montreal's DJ Huggs
