Bob Dylan, Theme Time Radio Hour #1 (Weather) (YSI link) (zSHARE link)

Okay, enough of that upbeat shit, let's spend some time with the man who has gotten me through a break-up (barely) and death and any awful period in my adult years, Bob Dylan. Actually, since I'm still talking about these things, I guess I'm not really over them. Nice job Bob!

While I get over my disappointment, I figured that we'd take it all the way back to the beginning with the Theme Time Radio Hour radio show. This first one looks at Weather, a good starting point for us as the season is changing here in Brooklyn and my favorite time of year, Fall, is upon us. This one finds Mr. Dylan at his best. He's animated (check the laugh when he discusses his wish to have had a wife who helped him write songs) or is hilarious talk about clouds and the actual windiest city (it's not Chicago). The tunes are a mix of blues, early rock, country and pop, Muddy Waters, Fats Domino, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra. But, as always, it's the ones I haven't heard before that really blow me away; in particular, check Irma Thomas' "It's Raining," especially if you want to feel that heartbroken sadness. "(Drip drop) It's raining so hard, look like it's gonna rain all night/ and this is the time I love to be holdin' you tight/ But I guess I'll have to accept the fact that you're not here/ I wish the night would hurry and end my dear." Magnificent.

Aww shit, now I'm all sad again. Damn it Bob!

Over the next few weeks or months, we'll put up the first season of Theme Time, so that everyone can have access to these amazing documents. The new season began last night, so we'll try to pick that up once it's got rolling. Yeah!

I think the "Weather" hour allows us to hear the Bob in his natural voice. I've noticed his voice sounding more and more put on as the shows evolve.

Weather was my all time favorite show.
