Pound for Pound's CMJ Recommendations
The CMJ 2006 Music Marathon, a five-day onslaught of music, concerts and parties, hits New York City today. That should help explain the awful site of pasty white men with terrible fashion sense, the complete lack of women and the awful smell of smugness and ignorance in city venues. There are so many shows that I thought it would be fun to highlight the best of the best, imo. I also avoided the sold-out jawns, which takes a lot of the big ones out of the picture for those planning late. So, no The Knife, The Slits, Girl Talk, Cold War Kids/Tapes 'n Tapes/Dr. Dog, but have no fear. I did it as if I was trying to come up with a plan, so it's only the essentials.
Thursday: Hot Chip, Gang Gang Dance and Shy Child at Webster Hall (sold out?)
Friday: MSTRKRFT (4pm) Puma Store Union Square
Deerhoof (8:45pm), Erase Errata (7:45pm) and Excepter (6pm) Hiro Ballroom (tickets)
Cadence Weapon (6pm) Mercury Lounge (sold out?)
Saturday: Flosstradamus (3pm) Puma Store Union Square
Trae, Clipse, Catchdubs, DJ Chill, Flosstradamus Knitting Factory (more info) (tickets)
Modular People Presents: Van She and others Club Midway (more info) (tickets)
Vice Presents: Fixed 2-year Anniversary with Justice and Digitalism & Whitey Studio B (more info) (tickets)
Whew, that's a lot. Let me know what I missed, what you're attending, anything you wanna to say. If you have any ticket for The Knife tomorrow night and would like to give it to me, I will take it.
