First, let's get this out of the way. 4/20 dank! Okay, let's continue down the darker path we've taken this week. One of my favorite producers for years now in fact is DJ Scud. He definitely fits right in with Soundmurderer, although jungle is but one influence with him. I guess the best description is that he took jungle, added a punk attitutude, introduced it to the avant garde and the darker techno sounds and made something completely unique.

The songs above were done under one of his aliases, Rude Boy, It's actually one of the earliest things he did, a Japan-only release I believe. Suffice it to say it's hard to find. I actually prefer his later work a lot more, the stuff he does under his own name and with Panacea, where he lets the jungle/dancehall-y sounds shine through more. These tracks are brutal and unrelenting, not for the faint of heart. You get lots of stabs of noise, a decidedly political edge, coming from the far left, anti-skinhead side of things, a generally hardcore feel throughout both sides of the vinyl. It's definitely not that far removed from the noise stuff that Japan does so well, although it's the breaks that make it more listenable for me. More to come on Scud.

-There is only one way to guarantee the top billing at Pound for Pound, one band or artist that can be referenced to assure you the leading role in the nightly flier calvacade. Not Ed Banger, Larry Levan, Amos Larkin, not even Mr. Robert Zimmerman. No, only a reference or connection to The Smiths or Stephen Morrissey assures you immortality here. Hands and Knees in Philly is already one of the best parties in the country. Tonight though, they take it to a whole new level with a live set by Sons and Heirs, a Smiths cover band. Be still my heart. In their attempts to assure legendary status, JHN RDN and Ian St. Laurent have also invited Pound for Pound favorites Crimp Yr Hair DJs to drop the electro-freestyle-disco madness. It's all at The M Room (Girard & Frankford) for 5 bucks. Moz is G-d.



-Have I mentioned Chicago is my new favorite city? It only took me like 5 years to get over my ex from there and I'm now of clear mind and can see how amazing the city has become and how much is going on.



-The Windy City ain't done yet, as The Kampfire Killaz join resident DJs Brock & Misa for The Beta Theta at Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave.) We're going to be talking a lot more about all of these cats, as there's big things happening out there.



-My current home (for the moment) New York City gets another Modular Monthly. This one's at the Tribeca Grand. Seriously. Tim from Cut Copy is spinning, which you got to admit is pretty sweet. Apache Beat are playing live, Kasper Bjorke DJs along with the Modular crew. Most importantly, I'll be there, getting my fancy on. I may wear an ascot or tell girls I'm an investment banker.



-As I mentioned last week, things are picking up in Finger On The Pulse. Brooklyn's finest are doing the damn thing at Savalas tonight, gearing up for the big one next weekend at Studio B. Guaranteed good time, sweaty dancing, dry humping, the usual FOTP stuff.



-Happy birthday to Roxy Cottontail, who's not surprisingly celebrating in style. she's hosting an 18+ party at Studio B with a live set by Iceland's Steed Lord and a DJ set by A-Trak. Since she's the party queen of NYC, I imagine there will be lots of surprises. Amazing flier, almost put up both of them.

-D.C. isn't just scumbag politicians and hideous young people who want to become them. It's also the home of Infamy, the monthly put on by DJ Will Eastman at the 9:30 Club (815 V St, NW). Tonight, there's a special live set by Codebreakers, a cool funky electro band from . Also, DJ People's Champion will give the people what they want - bangers.



-finally, even Pound for Pound makes mistakes. Cargo pants, most times when I try to decide if I've had too much to drink and my love life are but a few examples. Earlier this week, I hyped The Faint's guest DJ gig at club 82. Well, funny thing, that's tonight, Friday. All the same info applies, Daniel from Le Disko, Paparazzi, Keith 2.0, a rare 21+ night in LA, Club 82 Calling All DJs, Avalon Hollywood (1735 Vine St.).
